Direct freehand vs digital injection-moulded composite veneers
Cosmetic dentists in Ireland use two main ways to place composite veneers: direct freehand chairside layering (€250 to €450 per tooth, sculpted artistically in one visit) and digital injection-moulded or indirect lab composite veneers (€450 to €650 per tooth, designed on a 3D computer scan and injected through a clear silicone stent after you approve a trial smile).

6 teeth (canine to canine) · Digital injection-moulded / lab composite veneers
Guide price of €2,500 to €3,600 for 6 upper front teeth (canine to canine) using digital injection-moulded / lab composite veneers. By comparison, the same 6 teeth (canine to canine) in lab-made porcelain veneers would cost €4,500 to €7,200 (€3,600 to €5,760 after 20% Med 2 tax relief).

| Stage | Direct freehand layered veneers | Digital injection-moulded veneers |
|---|---|---|
| How the shape is created | The dentist hand-sculpts multiple shades of dentine and translucent enamel composite directly on your teeth using fine brushes and instruments | A 3D intraoral scan of your teeth is sent to a digital lab, which designs the ideal symmetrical smile in CAD software and 3D-prints a model and clear silicone stent |
| Preview before bonding | Freehand mock-up on 1 or 2 teeth on the day | Full trial smile mock-up placed over your teeth so you can see and approve the exact length and symmetry before etching |
| Material used | High-lustre nano-hybrid paste composite (allows multi-shade halo and incisal translucency) | High-density heated flowable nano-composite injected under pressure into the clear stent over each tooth |
| Best suited for | 2 to 6 teeth where natural polychromatic colour blending and lifelike incisal edges are top priority | 6 to 10 teeth where millimetre-perfect left-to-right symmetry, uniform tooth length and predictable bite alignment are key |
| Cost per tooth | €250 to €450 | €450 to €650 (includes digital lab wax-up & stents) |
A third option: indirect CAD/CAM lab composite veneers
Alongside injection moulding, some Irish clinics offer indirect laboratory composite veneers (also €450 to €650 per tooth). Instead of curing the resin in your mouth, the dental technician mills or presses the veneers in the lab under intense heat, pressure and light — achieving a higher degree of polymerisation (conversion) than chairside curing lights can reach, and bonding them at a second visit just like porcelain veneers.

Questions patients ask
Do injection-moulded composite veneers look monochrome or 'too fake'?
Because injection moulding uses a single shade of heated high-filled flowable composite per tooth, it creates a very clean, uniform aesthetic. If you want subtle translucent blue-grey tips and warm cervical necks, many dentists use a hybrid 'cut-back' injection technique: injecting the main dentine body through the stent and hand-layering translucent enamel on the incisal edge.
Which lasts longer: freehand direct or injection-moulded composite?
Both last 5 to 7 years with annual polishing; modern ultra-high-filled injectable nano-composites have wear resistance almost identical to traditional paste composites.
